I am Chelsea, I am 24 years old and I am a lesbian.

Growing up was an... interesting experience for me. I live in the rural south, I was raised Mormon and I have known that I was a lesbian since I was 5. I was bullied on a regular basis, as well as beaten up from 8-17. I didn't even start acting on my feelings until I was 14-15. Even then, I had no idea what was going on. Apparently, everyone else had a decent idea.

I tried coming out to my parents when I was 15, but they weren't really hearing me. It probably didn't help that I told them I was only bisexual because I thought it would soften the blow in some way. It wasn't until I was 17 and a senior in High School that I finally got the nerve to tell my mom the truth. I wrote a letter to her and handed it to her before I went to school that morning. She recalls it as a “terrible day.” However, she has been nothing but supportive of me and I am lucky to have her.
